After the victim lodged a complaint, the Kasba Police Station registered a First Information Report (FIR) and initiated an investigation. According to police sources, the accused have been identified as Monojit Mishra (31), a former unit president of the college, Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee, also known as Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20).
Mishra and Ahmed were taken into custody on the evening of June 26 near Talbagan Crossing in Kolkata, in front of Siddhartha Shankar Sishu Roy Udyan. Their mobile phones were confiscated during the arrest. Mukherjee was arrested from his home at around 12:30 am on June 27, and his phone was also seized.
