Suicide by pan masala baron's daughter-in-law: Deceased's brother alleges harassment by her husband, mother-in-law
PTC Web Desk: Deepti Chaurasia, daughter in-law of the owner of the Kamla Pasand pan masala brand, was found dead inside the dressing room of her bedroom at her residence in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar on Thursday, prompting serious allegations from her family against her in-laws. The deceased was found unresponsive by her husband shortly after he returned home from the gym.
The police said the woman was alone at the house when the incident occurred. Her husband had stepped out in the morning, and their two children had left for school. On returning, he reportedly found her in the dressing area and immediately rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her “brought dead.”
A diary entry mentioning “relationship issues” was recovered from her room, police sources said. Her body was later sent to Safdarjung Hospital for post-mortem, and a forensic team examined the scene as part of the investigation.
The woman’s brother, speaking to mediapersons, alleged that she faced constant harassment from her husband and mother-in-law. He claimed the family had recently brought her back to Kolkata due to marital tensions, but she was persuaded by her in-laws to return to Delhi under the promise of resolving the issues.
According to him, the alleged abuse continued even after her return. He further accused the husband of engaging in multiple affairs and claimed he had remarried and fathered a child outside the marriage.
In response, the family lawyer representing the businessman’s household dismissed the accusations as “false” and said both families were devastated. He added that no written complaint or note implicating anyone had been found.
The police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and have recorded statements from relatives present at the residence.
