Supreme Court seeks report from Central air quality panel on Delhi-NCR pollution
New Dehli, October 10: The Supreme Court has addressed the growing concerns of air pollution in Delhi-NCR during the winter months and the issue of crop residue burning. During the proceedings, the court requested a report from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) detailing the actions being undertaken to mitigate air pollution in the Delhi region.
The court's bench, consisting of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia, took note of the concerns raised by senior advocate Aparajita Singh, who is serving as an amicus curiae in the pollution case. Singh highlighted the seriousness of the air pollution problem as winter approaches and drew attention to the issue of crop residue burning, both of which have been brought before the CAQM.
In response, the bench issued a directive for the CAQM to urgently submit a report outlining the measures being implemented to control air pollution in and around the national capital. The court has scheduled the matter for further hearing on October 31.
