Temporary respite for Delhi: Heatwave unlikely in city for another week, says IMD
Delhi weather UPDATE: Delhiites will get temporary relief as a heatwave is unlikely for another week, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said on Wednesday.
The maximum temperature in the city, however, may hit the 42-degree mark in two to three days.
A new western disturbance is expected to strike the northwest region, causing a dust storm and drizzles in Delhi on May 13, which could provide brief relief, according to an IMD official.
"The maximum temperature will continue to rise over the next few days amid clear skies and it is predicted to hit the 42 degrees Celsius mark by May 12-13. However, a heatwave is unlikely till May 16-17," the IMD said.
On Wednesday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was 20.9 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperature is expected to be around 38 degrees Celsius. From April 21 to May 7, the city endured a long period of cloudy weather and scattered rainfall, which is unusual for this time of year. With a mean high temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius, May has historically been the hottest month in Delhi.
