Two dead, over 20 hurt as truck carrying pilgrims from Punjab overturns in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic accident on Tuesday morning, a truck carrying pilgrims from Bathinda, Punjab, to Chamunda Temple overturned after colliding with an HRTC bus in Dhaliara, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. The incident claimed the lives of two persons and left more than 20 injured.
The pilgrims were on their way to serve at a langar (community kitchen) when the accident occurred. Six of the seriously injured have been referred to Tanda Medical College, while the rest are receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Dehra.
The truck was not only carrying pilgrims but also langar supplies, including over 10 cylinders. Fortunately, none of the cylinders exploded during the accident, which could have resulted in far more casualties.
The truck collided with an HRTC bus travelling from Dharamshala toward Hoshiarpur. Following the collision, the driver attempted to speed away, prompting several passengers to jump from the moving vehicle in fear. Shortly after, the truck overturned near the Radha Swami Satsang Bhawan and fell into a nearby gorge.
Local residents immediately initiated rescue efforts, rushing the injured to hospitals with private vehicles and 108 ambulances. The police have registered a case and begun an investigation. The SP of Dehra said 20 pilgrims were on board.
