PTC Web Desk: A major road accident late Sunday evening  claimed the lives of six persons, including a head constable from Chhattisgarh and his family members, as they were traveling to the Maha Kumbh for the sacred Sangam bath. The tragic collision occurred on the Varanasi-Shaktinagar State Highway-5A in the Hathinala police station area near Ranitali.

The family was travelling in Hyundai Creta car when it collided head-on with a trailer truck. The impact was so severe that the car was flung into a nearby house, while the trailer, after the collision, crushed a truck driver who was drinking tea by the roadside before ramming into the same house.

The deceased have been identified as Ravi Mishra (head constable, Chhattisgarh), Usha Mishra (mother of Ravi Mishra), Atharv Mishra (son of Ravi Mishra), Sanauallah (car driver) Guddu (a pedestrian from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh), and Dayashankar Pal (truck driver from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh).

Three persons were critically injured in the accident and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Varanasi. The injured are Priyanka Mishra (38), wife of deceased Ravi Mishra, Divyanshu Mishra, son of Ravi Mishra, and  Durga Devi, their housemaid.

The ill-fated car, bearing registration number CG 15 EB 4141, belonged to Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district. The vehicle was carrying the Mishra family and their housemaid to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh pilgrimage when the collision occurred. The car reduced to a mangled heap of metal. Local residents, police personnel, and emergency services worked tirelessly to extricate the victims from the wreckage.
