Mohali horror: Woman stabbed to death inside office; colleague hospitalised after alleged suicide attempt
Mohali murder case: A 29-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her colleague inside a private logistics company's office in Mohali's Phase 11 on Thursday evening. The accused, who is also an employee of the company, allegedly attempted to take his own life after the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The deceased, identified as Dimple, worked in the dispatch team of SRP US Logistics. The accused, Harjinder, 34, was employed with the same company and reportedly worked in close proximity to her.
According to preliminary findings, the incident took place around 7.30 pm at the company's office.
Investigators have recovered CCTV footage from the office premises, which reportedly shows the victim attempting to escape while the assailant continued the attack. Several employees present at the office tried to intervene, but the accused allegedly threatened them with the weapon.
Witnesses told the police that one employee managed to disarm the attacker briefly. However, the accused allegedly produced another knife and continued the assault. The woman sustained multiple injuries and collapsed during the attack.
After allegedly attacking the victim, the accused reportedly inflicted injuries on himself in an apparent suicide attempt. Colleagues immediately alerted emergency services and the police.
Both individuals were rushed to Fortis Hospital. Doctors declared Dimple dead on arrival, while Harjinder was admitted in critical condition and remains under medical supervision.
Police and forensic teams examined the crime scene and collected evidence. CCTV footage from the office has been seized as part of the investigation.
Initial police inquiries suggest that the accused and the victim had known each other for several years while working at the company. Investigators are examining reports that the two were earlier in a relationship and had separated some time ago.
Police sources indicated that the accused had allegedly been attempting to reconcile with the woman, but the relationship could not be restored. The police, however, have not officially confirmed this as the motive behind the crime.
The SHO of Phase 11 police station said statements from the victim's family are being recorded and further legal action is underway.
"The woman succumbed to her injuries. We are investigating all aspects of the case, including the nature of the relationship between the accused and the deceased and the circumstances that led to the attack," the SHO said.
A case has been registered and the police said the exact motive will be determined after a detailed investigation.
