PTC Web Desk: A 26-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife just four months after their marriage, the police on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Sachin Singh, reportedly strangled his wife following a domestic dispute and later surrendered at a local police station.
According to officials, Sachin and his wife Shweta Singh were residing in a rented room in the Maharajpur area for the past month. The couple had been in a relationship for several years and had married against the wishes of their families through a court marriage.
During questioning, Sachin claimed that he had begun suspecting his wife’s behaviour in recent weeks. He alleged that while he was away for work, Shweta became acquainted with two engineering students living in nearby rooms close to an engineering college in the area.
Sachin told the police that he informed his wife that he would be travelling to his native village and would not return that night. However, he allegedly came back unexpectedly and claimed to have found his wife in a compromising situation with two men. He said he tried to record the scene on his mobile phone, following which an altercation broke out.
The police were alerted and reached the spot, taking all individuals involved to the police station. However, Sachin later informed the officers that he did not want to pursue a formal complaint and wished to resolve the matter privately. All parties were subsequently released.
The accused further claimed that after returning home, his wife insisted that he ensure the release of the two men and allegedly threatened to leave him if he refused. He stated that during a heated argument, he lost control and strangled her to death.
After the incident, Sachin allegedly wrapped Shweta’s body in a blanket and left it inside the rented room. The following day, he went to a nearby police station and confessed to the crime.
The police accompanied him to the location, where Shweta’s body was recovered. The accused has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered. Officials said the body is being sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
