Vande Bharat passengers reject 'dirty' food, seek catering staff intervention

PTC News Desk: Passengers traveling on the Varanasi-bound Vande Bharat Express created a stir as visuals circulated on social media, depicting them refusing untouched food trays due to alleged stale and unappetising meals. The incident, shared by user Akash Keshari on January 6, gained attention, with passengers urging the catering staff to take back the subpar meals.

In his tweet, Keshari expressed disappointment, stating, "Hi sir, I am on a journey with 22416 from NDLS to BSB. The food served now is smelling, and the food quality is very poor. Kindly refund my money. These vendors are spoiling the brand name of Vande Bharat Express." The tweet, directed at the railway ministry and Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, included visuals of passengers rejecting the meals.

One image showcased passengers requesting catering staff to take back the untouched food trays, while another close-up shot revealed allegedly foul-smelling food packed in aluminum foil. Railways Seva assured Keshari that the complaint was officially registered on RailMadad. The IRCTC official handle responded to Keshari's tweet, acknowledging the serious nature of the matter.

In a response at around 4:27 pm on Thursday, the IRCTC apologised for the unsatisfactory experience, indicating that a penalty had been imposed on the service provider. The responsible staff had been disengaged, and the licensee received suitable instructions. The monitoring of on-board services was strengthened, according to the statement.

In the comments section, other users recounted similar incidents, with one user noting the declining quality of food across various train services in recent years.
