Lok Sabha Polls 2024 | A recent incident from the Lok Sabha Polls 2024 in Uttar Pradesh grabbed significant attention of users, officials, constituency candidates and officials of Election Commission of India.

A youth of Uttar Pradesh has been recently arrested after a video of his seen voting 8 times for a BJP candidate goes viral on social media.

In a two-minute video, a voter is seen repeatedly casting votes for BJP candidate Mukesh Rajput on an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), allegedly doing so at least eight times.

The youth has been identified as Rajan Singh, a resident of Khiriya Pamaran village.

According to the statement of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa, an FIR has been filed in relation to the situation

"Instructions to suspend and institute disciplinary proceedings against all members of the polling party have been issued. Repolling has been recommended to the Election Commission of India in the polling station concerned," the official said.

Sections 171F (offense related to elections), 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), Sections 128, 132, and 136 of the Representation of the People Act (relating to maintaining the secrecy of voting, fraud at elections, and other election offenses), and other pertinent laws are among the sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other applicable laws under which the case has been registered.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also shared the video and sought action from the Election Commission.

Taking to X handle, Akhilesh Yadav wrote, “If the Election Commission feels that this is wrong then it must take some action, otherwise… BJP's booth committee is actually a loot committee.”

This case highlights ongoing concerns about electoral integrity and has sparked debates among political parties.

The opposition parties have used this incident to question the credibility of the electoral process and accuse the ruling party of manipulating votes.

This incident is part of a broader context of contentious and highly charged election campaigns in Uttar Pradesh.
