Vijay Rupani's body identified days after Ahmedabad plane crash; 32 DNA samples matched so far
PTC News Desk: The body of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was among the 242 passengers killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, was identified on Sunday.
His body has been handed over to the family.
Meanwhile authorities have also identified 32 victims through their DNA samples and 14 bodies have been handed over to the families.
The victims identified so far were from different places in Gujarat and Rajasthan, additional civil superintendent Dr Rajnish Patel said.
"Thirty two DNA samples have matched till now, and 14 bodies have already been handed over to the respective families. These deceased were from Udaipur, Vadodara, Kheda, Mehsana, Arvalli, Ahmedabad and Botad districts," Patel said.
Since many of the bodies were either charred beyond recognition or severely damaged, authorities began conducting DNA tests to identify the victims of the devastating tragedy.
Earlier, officials stated that around 230 teams had been deployed to liaise with the families of the victims.
