PTC News Desk: A video of a group of people throwing several cows into an overflowing river in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district has gone viral on social media, forcing the police to file charges against four individuals.

According to preliminary reports, 15 to 20 cows were killed in an incident that occurred on Tuesday within the Nagod police station limits, but the information has yet to be verified, officials stated Wednesday.

"A video of cows thrown into the Satna River under a railway bridge in Bamhor surfaced on Tuesday evening. Taking note of the video, a police team was dispatched to the scene to gather information, and a case was filed," Nagod police station in-charge Ashok Pandey stated.

Four people, identified as Beta Bagri, Ravi Bagri, Rampal Choudhary, and Rajlu Choudhary, have been charged under relevant sections of the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam, the state law that prohibits cow killing, as well as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he said.

"According to the initial information, there were approximately 50 cows, 15 to 20 of which died. A rescue operation is underway," he stated. An inquiry will reveal the number of cows thrown into the river, as well as the death toll, Pandey added.

The police claimed that further investigation and a manhunt for the accused were underway.
