Weather Update: IMD predicts above-normal rainfall for India in August and September; Check details
Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted above-normal rainfall across India for August and September 2024. This prediction comes as a relief to many regions that have been experiencing erratic monsoon patterns over the past few years.
The forecast suggests that rainfall will reach approximately 106% of the long-period average, which is 422.8 mm.
In addition, there is a significant likelihood of favorable La Niña conditions emerging by the end of August. According to IMD Chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, while most regions across the country are expected to experience normal to above-normal rainfall, certain areas will see below-normal precipitation.
Specifically, below-normal rainfall is anticipated in parts of the northeast, adjacent east India, Ladakh, Saurashtra and Kutch, as well as isolated areas of central and peninsular India.
Mohapatra also highlighted that the western Himalayan region may face deficient rainfall during this period.Probabilistic Forecast of Rainfall over the Country during August to September, 2024
