Zomato drops green uniforms for 'pure veg' fleet amid controversy: Prioritises rider safety...

PTC News Desk: Zomato's decision to introduce a dedicated fleet for 'pure veg' deliveries stirred controversy, prompting CEO Deepinder Goyal to address the concerns. In response to the backlash, Goyal announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the segregation of fleets based on food preferences would no longer be enforced on the ground. Instead, all riders, regardless of their assigned fleet, will now wear the familiar red uniform.

The initial plan involved launching a specialised fleet exclusively catering to orders from vegetarian restaurants, distinguished by their green attire and green delivery boxes. However, following public outcry, Zomato opted to abandon the color-coded distinction.

Goyal emphasised that although the segregation would no longer be visually apparent, customers could still identify vegetarian orders through the app, ensuring transparency in service.

The decision to backtrack stemmed from concerns regarding the safety and well-being of delivery partners. Goyal emphasised that removing the visual distinction would prevent any potential misidentification of riders, particularly during sensitive occasions, such as religious holidays or community events. Ensuring the physical safety of Zomato's delivery partners remains a top priority for the company.
