Neeraj Chopra wins season’s first gold in Finland; escapes injury after nasty fall View in Punjabi

Kuortane (Finland), June 19: Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra delivered another outstanding performance on Saturday, winning gold in the 2022 Kuortane Games in Finland.

The Olympic champion threw 86.69 m to clinch the top prize in tricky and wet conditions. Chopra got off to a good start in the rain, but his second throw was foul. The Indian javelin thrower hit the target on his first try in the tournament, got a foul on his second try, and then had a nasty slip on his third try, forcing him to forego the last two attempts.

Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad grabbed silver with an 86.64m throw, while Anderson Peters won bronze with an 84.75m throw. Sandeep Chaudhury of India finished eighth in the standings with a throw of 60.35 metres.

Neeraj competed in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland earlier this month, winning silver and setting a new national record with a throw of 89.30 metres. On June 30, the Golden Boy of India will participate in the Diamond League's Stockholm leg.
