Big jolt to AAP in Punjab; Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia joins SAD
PTC Web Desk: In a significant blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Majitha constituency of Amritsar district in Punjab, constituency in-charge Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) along with his family on Friday. This shift marks a notable realignment in the local political landscape amid the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the presence of SAD leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia and Majitha MLA Ganieve Kaur. Anil Joshi, SAD candidate for the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency, was also present. He welcomed the new members and underscored the strengthening of the party’s campaign in Amritsar.
Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia’s departure from AAP to join the SAD is seen as a strategic move that could impact the upcoming elections. His integration into the SAD fold is expected to bolster the party's outreach and influence in the region. The AAP now faces the challenge of regrouping and strategising to compensate for the loss of a key leader and his supporters in Majitha.
Notably, Lalli Majithia had faced defeats in the Majitha Assembly constituency against SAD candidate Bikram Singh Majithia in the 2007, 2012, and 2017 Assembly elections. In the 2012 election, he ran as an independent candidate, while in 2007 and 2017, he contested on a Congress ticket. Later, he joined the AAP.
