PTC News Desk: The Congress moved the Election Commission on Monday, seeking action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'infiltrator' remark at a rally in Banswara, Rajasthan.

During his rally in Banswara, Rajasthan, the Prime Minister claimed that if the Congress is elected, it will redistribute the country's wealth in favour of Muslims and is also eyeing women's gold in this context. The party has already sharply criticised Prime Minister Modi, accusing him of making "divisive comments."

Demanding a clarification from PM Modi over his remarks, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said to EC, "We respect the office he (PM Modi) holds; he is as much our PM as yours or the BJP. The higher the position he holds, the more the obligation he holds to exercise restraint. Unfortunately, the statement he quoted, is seriously objectionable. We can never expect this from the PM. We would pray to him with folded hands to withdraw these comments and clarify."

"Our Prime Minister gave a speech in Rajasthan that targeted a specific community which might steal our national resources. That community is linked to infiltrators. His allegations about an attack on Mangalsutras are again religious in nature.  It is a clear violation of the ECI circular," stated Singhvi.

"While we have objections to the entire tone and tenor of the Prime Minister's speech, in this representation we wish to highlight the completely unprecedented and malicious allegations as well statements which are clearly aimed at creating enmity between groups, far worse than any ever made by a sitting Prime Minister in the history of India. This cannot go unchecked, unanswered and unpunished," the letter to the Commission read.

"We are thankful to ECI to give us time, we had raised 17 issues which attacks the basic principles of our constitution," he went on to say.
