Hemant Soren's wife likely to take over as Jharkhand CM if he is arrested: Reports
PTC News Desk: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana Soren is likely to be named CM if he gets arrested, according to sources in the Mukti Morcha Party.
Soren will be questioned by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 regarding an alleged money laundering case. There is a chance that he will be arrested by the agency once his statement is recorded.
According to sources, Soren made the announcement during a meeting of the ruling alliance's MLAs this evening. The MLAs have agreed because the preservation of the government is critical at this time.
"We, all the MLAs of the alliance, of Congress, are fully supporting the Chief Minister," Banna Gupta, the state's health minister and a Congress member, told reporters late this evening.

However, Kalpana Soren's takeover may face legal challenges.
By-elections are not permitted if the Assembly's term expires in less than a year, according to constitutional provisions. In that case, Kalpana Soren would have a difficult time becoming an MLA.
Jharkhand will hold its assembly election in November of this year.
According to sources, if necessary, legal advice will be sought, or someone else will take over the top position.
