Karnataka CM suspense: Congress to reach decision on May 16; Siddaramaiah meets top leaders
Karnataka CM suspense: Despite securing an absolute majority in the recent state election, the Congress party in Karnataka is facing a serious conundrum. The problem for the grand-old party is the same: who should be named chief minister. To prevent scenarios like Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and the current issue in Rajasthan, the Congress party appears to be cautious in choosing the Karnataka chief minister.
So far, Congress has been unable to decide whether to hand the state's top post to Siddaramaiah or DK Shivakumar. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has been tasked by the grand-old party with selecting one of them as CM.
Kharge might reveal the name of the Karnataka CM today, May 16. For the past three days, the saga over the next Karnataka's chief minister has continued, with both heavyweights playing a significant role in the Congress' win in the Karnataka Assembly elections 2023.
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah was in Delhi to meet the top leadership of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). He left Delhi's Lodhi Hotel late on Monday night and remained tight-lipped and did not interact with the reporters.
On Monday evening, the 75-year-old leader landed in the national capital on a special flight to meet with AICC leaders. "Let's wait and see...I don't know..." Siddaramaiah said.
Furthermore, Shivakumar has postponed three flights to Delhi due to health concerns. "My health is not permitting me (to go to Delhi). I have a stomach problem, blood pressure, and fever. Tomorrow I will reach," he said on Monday.
Shivakumar is set to arrive in Delhi today.
In the recently held elections, Congress party won 135 of the 224 assembly seats, defeating the rival BJP brutally.
