Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Result: Who won, who lost? A look at key candidates' performance

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Result: The final count for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has concluded, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 240 seats. Despite having fewer seats than expected, the BJP maintained a decisive lead over the Congress, which won 99 seats.

The results show several significant victories and upsets in various constituencies. Take a look at the top winners in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, including PM Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Shankar Lalwani.


- Prime Minister Narendra Modi successfully retained his Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He defeated Congress candidate Ajay Rai by 1,52,513 votes.

- Home Minister Amit Shah won Gandhi Nagar by a staggering 7,44,716 votes over Congress' Sonam Ranambhai Patel.

- Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, won the Lucknow seat for the third time, defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Ravidas Mehrotra by 1,35,159 votes.

- Shankar Lalwani, the incumbent MP from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, won by the largest margin in this election, with 12,26,751 votes. He was pitted against Sanjay from the Bahujan Samaj Party. NOTA also set a record of two lakh votes.

- Kangana Ranaut has made a remarkable political debut. She defeated Vikramaditya Singh of the Congress by 74,755 votes while running on a BJP ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

- Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, won the Vidisha Lok Sabha seat by 8,21,408 votes over Congress candidate Prataphanu Sharma.

- Bunty Vivek Sahu of the BJP won in Chhindwara, defeating Nakul Nath of the Congress by a margin of 1,13,618 votes.

Significant Opposition Wins

- Rahul Gandhi won big in Raebareli, defeating Dinesh Pratap of the BJP by 3,90,030 votes. He also won Waynad's seat by 3,64,422 votes over his nearest rival, Communist Party of India candidate Annie Raja.

- KL Sharma of Congress won the Amethi seat, defeating the incumbent MP and Union Minister Smriti Irani by a margin of 1,67,196 votes. 

- Shashi Tharoor retained his Thiruvananthapuram seat in Kerala for a record 4th term, defeating BJP candidate Rajeev Chandrasekhar by 16,077 votes.

Key Losses for BJP

- The BJP lost the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat of which Ayodhya is a part. This comes just four months after the consecration of the Ram temple, which was one of the BJP’s key ideological projects and one of its biggest calling cards in Lok Sabha elections. BJP candidate Lallu Singh, a three-time MP from Faizabad, was facing SP candidate Awadesh Prasad.

- Even in an election that defied all exit poll predictions and saw the BJP fall far short of its own target of 370 seats.

- Four union ministers were defeated in the election: Smriti Irani, RK Singh, Arjun Munda, and Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

- Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), defeated BJP candidate Madhavi Latha by 3,38,087 votes in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

- Shiv Sena's Ravindra Dattaram Waikar won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with the smallest victory margin, defeating Shiv Sena UBT candidate Amol Gajanan Kirtikar by 48 votes in the Mumbai North West constituency.

- Yusuf Pathan of the TMC defeated Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury by 85,022 votes in the Baharampur constituency.
