Psychometric test of all school employees: Security guidelines by CBSE
Central Board of Secondary Education today issued new security guidelines for all schools that included a psychometric test for the teaching and non-teaching staff. It also placed the onus of safety of students on the school.
Psychometric tests measure an individual’s mental capabilities and behaviour. The tests are designed to measure a candidate’s suitability for a specific role. The evaluation is done by a professional psychologist after the test.
CBSE has asked schools to complete the evaluation process within two months and implement the other guidelines, failing which the school would be derecognition.
“Such verification and evaluation for non-teaching staff such as bus drivers, conductors, peon, and other support staff may be done very carefully. This may be complied with and reported online on the CBSE website within two months of receipt of circular,” the directive states.
“The onus for safety and security of children on school campus shall solely lie upon the school authorities. It is a fundamental right of a child to engage and study in an environment where he/she feels safe and is free from any form of physical or emotional abuse or harassment,” the directive says.
“Any violation/lapses with regard to safety and well-being of children on the school campus would invite appropriate action, including disaffiliation,” it adds.
Schools will also need to constitute separate committees for redressal of grievances of the public, staff, parents and students, and an internal complaints committee to deal with sexual harassment, and committees under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, 2012.
The new guidelines have come after the murder case of a 7 year old in the school premises.
“Details of these committees along with contact details shall be displayed prominently on the school notice board and conspicuously on the school website.”
