Aboard the boat, CM Bhagwant Mann takes stock of flood-situation in Punjab's Hoshiarpur
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann toured flood-affected areas of the Hoshiarpur district in a boat on Thursday to assess the situation on the ground.
The Chief Minister travelled by boat with NDRF officials to the villages of Rara and Fateh Kulla, then to Haler, Motla, and Kolia. He ordered authorities to ensure that residents in low-lying regions were evacuated to safe areas. Bhagwant Mann stated firmly that every life is valuable to the state government and that no stone should be left unturned in order to help the people in this time of distress.
Later, in an interview with the media, the Chief Minister stated that the full government machinery, including the state government's helicopter, is at the disposal of the people during this time of need. He stated that while there has been no rain in the state, significant downpour in hilly states has created flooding in these areas.
The CM stated that he is in constant touch with BBMB officials and the Himachal administration to assess the situation.
The Chief Minister went on to say that the mayhem in the district was caused by the release of excess water from Pong Dam. He stated that, while Pong Dam is six feet above the danger limit, there is no cause for concern because it has previously been above ten feet. According to Bhagwant Singh Mann, the dam's water is being released in a controlled manner for the safety of the public.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister stated that the water level at Bhakra Dam is below the danger level. He stated that every effort is being made to assist the people during this difficult time. Bhagwant Singh Mann further stated that the people of the state have been blessed with an indomitable spirit to face adversity.
