Amritsar grenade blast: Man killed in Majitha road explosion identified; family denies any terror links
Amritsar grenade blast: The youth who was killed in the mysterious explosion on Majitha road in Amritsar has been identified as 25-year-old Nitin Kumar, a resident of Ghanoopur Kale village in Chehharta area. Nitin belonged to a poor family and worked as an auto-rickshaw driver to support his household.
According to his father, Rakesh Kumar, the family was completely unaware of how Nitin reached the blast site. “Like every other day, he left home in the morning. But today, he left without his auto at around 7 am, which was unusual,” said Rakesh Kumar. The family lives in a small rented room and survives on the modest earnings of Nitin and his brother, both of whom operated auto-rickshaws.
Family members revealed that Nitin had long been battling substance abuse and regularly visited a government de-addiction centre for medication. “He used to go there every day to get his dose. He had a habit of sniffing from packets, and we suspect that he might have been doing the same when the blast occurred,” the father added.
The family strongly rejected allegations linking Nitin to any terrorist outfit or unlawful activity. “He was not involved in any such acts. He was a victim, not a perpetrator,” Rakesh Kumar stated firmly.
The police are still investigating the cause of the explosion, which occurred on a busy road, raising serious security concerns.
