Amritsar orders ban on meat, alcohol and tobacco sales near Valmiki Tirath during Vijay Diwas celebrations
PTC Web Desk: The Amritsar district administration has issued special orders ahead of the Vijay Diwas religious congregation to be held on November 4 and 5 at Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal in Amritsar. Thousands of devotees from across India and abroad are expected to visit the sacred site during the two-day event.
Taking into account the religious sentiments of devotees and requests from various social and religious organisations, Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjeet Singh has ordered that all shops selling pan, beedi, meat, fish, eggs and liquor within a 500-metre radius of the Tirath Sthal remain closed on both days.
The directive has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, to preserve the sanctity of the area and maintain a peaceful atmosphere for the devotees.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the move aimed to uphold the purity of the religious environment and respect the devotees’ sentiments. He has instructed the SSP (Amritsar Rural), Additional Deputy Commissioners (Urban and Rural Development), and respective SDMs to ensure strict enforcement of the order.
The administration has also appealed to the public to maintain peace, discipline and communal harmony during the celebrations so that the sacred event can be conducted in an atmosphere of devotion and respect.
