British High Commission holds awareness session on visa fraud at ITI Lopoke in Amritsar
PTC Web Desk: The British High Commission organised a community outreach session at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Lopoke in Amritsar under its ‘Visa Fraud Se Bache’ campaign to spread awareness about visa fraud and safe migration to the United Kingdom.
The programme was aimed at educating students, youngsters and local residents about the dangers of visa scams and illegal migration.
British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh, Alba Smeriglio, attended the event as the chief guest.
During the session, Rajinder S Nagarkoti, senior advisor at the British High Commission, informed participants about how fraudsters mislead people through fake promises, forged documents and false information related to overseas travel. He also highlighted the risks and legal consequences linked to illegal migration and advised people to follow only authorised visa procedures.
Participants were encouraged to use official and trusted sources for information related to UK travel and migration.
Principal Jatinder Hans and his team welcomed the delegation and thanked the British High Commission for conducting the awareness programme.
Officials also shared details about the British High Commission’s WhatsApp chatbot, which provides verified information related to UK travel in English, Hindi and Punjabi. The chatbot helps users identify visa fraud and understand legal migration options.

Through the ‘Visa Fraud Se Bache’ campaign, the British High Commission continues to work with educational institutions, community groups and local stakeholders across North India to spread awareness about legal migration and protect people from visa fraud.
