Chandigarh: 51st Rose Festival kicks off on Feb 17

Chandigarh, February 17: Three-day 51st Rose Festival  kicked off today and is all set to take place from February 17 to 19 amidst blooming roses at the Rose Garden also known as Dr. Zakir Rose Garden. 

The festival celebrates the beauty and diversity of roses, and typically includes activities such as musical performances, food stalls, competitions, and cultural events.

The festival usually takes place in February or March, depending on when the roses are in full bloom. 

The festival was inaugurated by Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit. 

The opening ceremony commenced with the beating of drums, playing of bands, folk dance performances by artistes of different states and showcasing of regional art and flower arrangements.

While inaugurating the 51st Rose Festival at Chandigarh, Governor Banwarilal Purohit said, “This time on 51st Rose Festival, the picture of traditional rituals of different states will be experienced as people were not able to enjoy the festival since three years due to Covid-19 pandemic.”

The main highlight of the 51st Rose Festival is “Light and sound show” on the theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Lakhs of tourist are expected to experience Rose Festival this year. A total of 831 varieties of roses will be planted.

• Selfie corner of ‘I Love Chandigarh’ and  ‘Swachhta Express ‘

• Art and Dance competitions

• Flower arrangement competition 

• Puppet show by artistes 

• Different types of dance show 

• Magic show
