Chandigarh District Court evacuated after bomb threat; security on high alert

PTC Web Desk: Panic gripped Chandigarh on Friday after the District Court Complex in Sector 43 received a bomb threat, prompting the immediate evacuation of the premises and the deployment of multiple security agencies.

As soon as the threat was reported, all court activities were suspended and the entire complex was cleared as a precautionary measure. Entry into the court premises was completely restricted, with both main gates sealed. The police cordoned off the area from all sides and imposed strict checks at entry and exit points.

Senior police officials, along with teams from the local police, bomb disposal squad, and other security agencies, rushed to the spot. A thorough search operation is currently underway inside the court complex to rule out any security threat. Heavy police deployment has been ensured in and around the area to maintain law and order.

According to sources, the threat was received via email sent to the official email ID of the District Court. The sender allegedly claimed that the court would be blown up using a drone-mounted explosive device. Chandigarh Police officials confirmed that the matter was immediately escalated to the SSP’s office following the receipt of the email.

Police teams from Sector 36 police station, along with DSP-level officers, also reached the site to supervise the security operation. Officials stated that the situation would become clear only after the completion of the search by the bomb squad.

This is not the first such incident this year. The Chandigarh District Court has reportedly received bomb threats three times earlier in 2024. On May 22, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had also received a bomb threat via email, leading to a complete evacuation of the premises. A week later, a similar threat was made to the Haryana Civil Secretariat, including the Chief Minister’s Office, forcing authorities to vacate the building.
