Drug smuggling network busted: Heroin worth Rs 300 crore seized in Amritsar, six arrested

PTC News Desk: In a significant breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate has busted an international drug smuggling network and arrested six individuals and recovered 30.045 kilograms of heroin from their possession. The seizure is deemed significant in crackdown on drug menace in Punjab.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with a trafficker based in Dubai, who is believed to be the key operator behind the cross-border heroin supply network. Through his network, the trafficker allegedly managed the entire system of drug procurement and distribution in Punjab.

Acting on his instructions, local operatives would collect heroin consignments from designated locations and distribute them across various districts of the state.

The 30.045 kg heroin seized in the operation is estimated to be worth a substantial amount in the international market. According to experts, its value in India could be around Rs 300 crore or even higher, depending on its purity and prevailing market rates. The recovery highlights both the financial strength and extensive reach of the drug trafficking network.

Police are now working to identify other members of the syndicate and are also investigating how funds linked to the illegal trade were transferred and received. Initial findings suggest that a hawala network may have been used for financial transactions, and this angle is being thoroughly examined.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigation is underway. Police are tracing both the backward and forward links of the network to dismantle the entire syndicate.
