Explosion at Majitha police station; police refute reports of 'major bomb blast'
PTC News Desk: A blast occurred at Majitha Police Station in Amritsar district on Wednesday night. However, police stated that the incident was misreported and did not result in a significant explosion.
The officials stated that the incident was caused by a tyre blast and that no damage was reported.
DSP Jaspal Singh told the media that there was no explosion, but that a policeman was filling air into the tyre of his motorbike, which burst, and later the policeman left the police station with his motorcycle.
"It was a tyre blast which was misreported... A police officer was filling the air in his motorcycle tyre and it blasted. There was no smell of a gas cylinder. No damage or broken glass was reported inside the station," he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, some media outlets defined the tyre blast as a 'major bomb blast' incident.
The incident came to light after a man opened fire on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday morning while he was serving penance at the Golden Temple entrance in Amritsar.
