Family dispute turns deadly: Ex-CRPF officer opens fire outside Amritsar police station, son killed and wife injured
PTC Web Desk: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the holy city of Amritsar, a former CRPF officer opened fire on his own family members outside the Sadar police station on Majitha Road in broad daylight, resulting in the death of his son and injuries to his wife and daughter-in-law.
The accused, identified as Tarsem Singh, a former Assistant Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), allegedly used his licensed 32-bore pistol to carry out the attack. According to preliminary police investigations, the motive behind the firing appears to be a long-standing domestic dispute.
The police said Tarsem Singh had two marriages and often assaulted his first wife while living with his second. On Friday, following a heated argument, he shot at his first wife, son Bachittar Singh, and daughter-in-law Paramjit Kaur. Bachittar was hit by three bullets and died on the spot, while his wife sustained a gunshot wound to her leg and Tarsem’s first wife suffered a bullet injury through her neck.
The incident took place right outside the Sadar police station, and officers immediately responded to the scene. The injured women were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. The accused has been arrested, and an FIR has been registered.
Senior officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events and recover additional evidence, including CCTV footage from the area.
