'Govt will have to grant relief...there is no alternative': Amritpal Singh's lawyer after his big win

PTC Web Desk: Lawyer of jailed separatist leader and 'Waris Punjab De' chief Amritpal Singh has stated the government will have to grant relief to Singh due to public support. His remarks come as Amritpal Singh secured victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from the Khadoor Sahib seat with a big margin.

Amritpal's lawyer Rajdev Singh Khalsa stated that Singh's efforts were focused on eradicating drug abuse in Punjab. He outlined the future legal strategy, emphasising Singh's pursuit of bail. He expressed confidence that the BJP and AAP governments would be forced to grant Singh relief due to public support.

"The next strategy is to get bail. The government will have to grant them relief because there is no other option; both the BJP and AAP governments will be forced to do so. Amritpal Singh was making Punjab drug-free. The people have agreed that his arrest was illegal and immoral," Khalsa stated.

Khalsa criticised the circumstances of Singh's arrest, which were orchestrated by the Bhagwant Mann government, calling the portrayal of law and order issues and Hindu-Sikh tensions false.

Amritpal Singh's wife and lawyer visited him at Dibrugarh Jail on Wednesday after he won the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat with a sizable margin of 4,04,430 votes.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Singh's closest rival was Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira, who received 2,07,310 votes.

The 'Waris Punjab De' chief was arrested by Punjab police in April of last year, weeks after evading arrest and being charged under the stringent National Security Act.
