Man killed in Amritsar explosion was there to pick up consignment, say cops; BKI link suspected
PTC News Desk: A massive explosion occurred on Amritsar's Majitha bypass road on Tuesday morning triggering a wave of panic amongst people. 1 individual who got critically injured with his arms and legs blown off in the blast succumbed to his injuries. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
The police officials rushed to the spot as soon as they received the information of blast and launched investigation into the matter.
The eyewitnesses recount the moment explosion took place. When onlookers reached the spot after, a person critically injured was lying down with excruciating pain. His hands and feet were blown off.
A team of police officials and bomb disposal squad reached the spot. A forensics team has also reached the spot to carry out further investigation. According to SSP Amritsar Rural, the injured person is believed to be the accused whose intent was to carry out the blast. However due to the mishandling of the explosive he himself got injured.
"We received information in the morning that there was an explosion here. The police officials have reached the spot and a person who was seriously injured has been admitted to the hospital...Generally, in the abandoned area, we have also seen in the past that anti-national elements come to retrieve their consignments. We suspect that he is one of the accused who came to retrieve the consignment and due to mishandling of an explosive, he was injured...Our FSL teams are on the way, " Maninder Singh, SSP Amritsar Rural said.
