Watch video: Not dwarfism but poverty major hurdle for Fazilka's Shopat Ram in achieving his goals
PTC Web Desk: Shopat Ram (27) of Chaurar Khera village in Fazilka district has managed to beat the stigma associated with dwarfism, but poverty has become a major hurdle for him in fulfilling his dream of cracking civil services exams. He has been studying day and night to become an IAS officer.
Shopat Ram's height is mere 3 feet, but he thinks big and wants to take his family out from poverty. People of his area often call him by the name of 'Shopat Dada'.
Shopat Ram says he has literally faced "isolation" in society just due to his height. People would mock at him, but he kept his focus on studies and cleared his BA exams with flying colours.
Shopat says he has six siblings but their height is normal. As per his family, Shopat could not gain height due to some hormonal issues and treatment at various places had no benefit.
"I had to endure a lot because of my height. But my only dream is to free my family from the clutches of poverty and become support to my parents. I have completed my graduation and now I am preparing for civil services, ” says Shopat.
He quipped that people still make mockery of his height, but it does not bother him much now. " My goal is clear: cracking civil services and getting my family out of poverty.
Shopat's parents have also appealed to the authorities to help their son achieve his dream of getting good job or fix some monthly allowance for him.
