Punjab & Haryana High Court seeks accountability over songs glorifying violence, weaponry

PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken a stern stance on songs glorifying violence and weapons, directing the authorities to provide details on the number of FIRs filed against such songs. Information has also been sought regarding actions taken against them. The Punjab Director General of Police has been requested to furnish these details.

While the Punjab Government has stated that it cannot impose a ban on these songs, as it falls under the jurisdiction of the censor board, the Punjab and Haryana High Court questioned why action hasn't been taken when it earlier issued orders to curb such content. The government has been given time until Friday to provide the requested information.

The HC has also sought explanations regarding the review of arms licenses. Despite thousands of licenses being reviewed in districts such as Kapurthala, Patiala, Malerkotla, Tarn Taran and Barnala, none were cancelled. This has raised concerns, prompting the Punjab and Haryana High Court to summon responses from Haryana as well.

The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for Friday. Additionally, clarification has been requested on why, when the Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner recommended cancelling certain licenses, nine licenses were still revoked.
