Punjab Bandh today: Following the recent clashes that created tension and turmoil in Manipur and resonated throughout the nation, a similar wave has now reached Punjab.

The unrest, which ignited on May 3, resulted in ethnic conflicts between the Meiteis and Kukis. This turmoil was prompted by the Manipur High Court's directive to the state government to deliberate on including the Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs). Unfortunately, this unrest has now extended its influence to Punjab.

In response to the ongoing Manipur issue, various local SC and Christian communities in Punjab have organised a call for a Punjab bandh (shutdown) and protests. In anticipation of potential disruptions, the Punjab Police have taken measures by deploying substantial police forces across multiple cities and districts. The primary objective behind this deployment is to uphold a sense of tranquility and stability.

As part of this security operation, approximately 100 police officials have been assigned to each zone. Their responsibility is to ensure that law and order prevail during the protests and related activities.

Adding to this scenario, the Manipur Insaaf Morcha has announced a strike that will be effective from 9 am to 5 pm. This collective effort aims to express dissent and draw attention to the ongoing situation.
