Punjab: CM Bhagwant Mann meets protesting farmers, promises highest sugarcane rates soon
CM Mann- Farmers meeting: Amid the ongoing farmers' protest in Jalandhar, Punjab, which persisted for the fourth consecutive day, roads remained blocked, causing extensive disruptions in the Northern Railway network. Punjab's Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, convened a meeting today with farmer union leaders at his official residence to address the unfolding protest.
During this gathering, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured the protesting farmers of granting the highest sugarcane rates in India. He pledged support to sugarcane farmers by promising incentives and an increase in sugarcane tariffs.
Mann emphasised the significance of dialogue and advised the farm unions against isolating the public through road blockades. Instead, he urged them to utilise platforms like Punjab Bhawan in Chandigarh, the Secretariat, the agriculture minister's office, or his own office for discussions and meetings related to their issues rather than disrupting the routine life of residents of Punjab by blocking transportation service.
Addressing the media after meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, protesting farmer leaders said that Chief Minister accepted all our demands and assured to increase the sugarcane tariffs till November 30.
Highlighting the impact of the ongoing protests, the disruption in the movement of vehicles from Jammu, Pathankot, and Amritsar via Jalandhar to Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Nawanshahr, and Delhi was evident. Commuters faced difficulties as police diverted traffic through alternative routes.
