Punjab cop killing: All accused arrested within 24 hours; police recover pistol, 2 live cartridges
Punjab cop killing: Punjab Police has arrested all four accused involved in the killing of constable Darshan Singh within 24 hours of the tragic incident.
The accused were apprehended after a brief encounter with police in which one of the accused got injured. The police also recovered a pistol and two live cartridges from their possession.
Punjab Police constable Darshan Singh, 50, was beaten to death on Sunday when he intervened in a scuffle at a restaurant in Barnala.
The incident occurred around 11.30 p.m. on Sunday when kabbadi players were fighting with restaurant staff at Barnala's 22-acre Market. The constable was accompanied by two colleagues from City Police Station.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced a 2 crore financial assistance for the constable's family. Mann stated that the state government will contribute one crore, and HDFC Bank will contribute one crore as well.
Four kabaddi players have been identified and arrested by police, while the remaining four have yet to be identified.
Parmjeet Singh, alias Pamma, of Thikriwala, Jugraj Singh, alias Raja, of Raisar, Baljeet Singh of Amla Singhwala, and Gurmeet Singh of Cheema village have been identified.
