Punjab gas  leak: A gas leak incident in Punjab's Ludhiana district triggered a fire in a residential complex, causing panic among the residents. The fire rapidly spread, engulfing four rooms in the area and  leaving seven persons injured, including a seven-year-old girl. The incident occurred in Giaspura's Samrat Colony, where illegal refilling of small gas cylinders from larger cylinders was taking place. The leak and subsequent fire occurred during the refilling process.

According to reports, the fire broke out in Street No. 3 of Samrat Colony in the Giaspura area, leading to chaos and panic among residents. People began shouting for help. Locals made strenuous efforts to bring the fire under control. Several residents suffered burns, with the most severe injuries sustained by a seven-year-old girl, identified as Shivani, and her mother, Phoolmati (35).

Five others who attempted to rescue the mother and daughter also sustained injuries in the blaze. The injured were taken to different hospitals across the city. Local residents alerted the Giaspura police post about the incident. Phoolmati’s husband, Daroga Prasad, said they lived in a compound in Samrat Colony. The caretaker of the compound was illegally refilling smaller cylinders from larger ones in an adjacent room when the gas leak occurred, leading to a sudden fire. Phoolmati, her daughter Shivani, and Daroga Prasad's younger brother, Kripa Shankar, were severely burned in the incident. Due to the seriousness of Phoolmati's injuries, she has been referred to a specialised facility for further treatment.
