Punjab on high alert: Intelligence warns of potential terror strikes by Khalistani groups
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Police and central intelligence agencies have issued a high-level alert following inputs suggesting a possible terror threat in the state during the upcoming festive season. The warnings indicate that Khalistani terrorist outfits, including Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), may be planning IED blasts and coordinated attacks, particularly targeting police infrastructure.
According to senior intelligence officials, BKI, reportedly supported by Pakistan’s ISI, is suspected of plotting a large-scale attack on Punjab police stations and other sensitive installations. Past incidents targeting law enforcement in the state make these locations especially vulnerable. Security forces have intensified surveillance, patrolling, and protective measures, especially in border districts and crowded public areas.
The alert comes after the arrest of two alleged operatives from Kurukshetra, Haryana. The suspects, identified as Gurwinder alias Gaggu and Sandeep are believed to have been operating under foreign handlers. Authorities reportedly seized hand grenades smuggled from Pakistan, and the duo is suspected of planning attacks on police stations either in Punjab or Kurukshetra.
Central agencies are interrogating the suspects to trace wider terror networks and prevent further threats. Officials believe these individuals are part of a larger module aimed at destabilising the region during festivals.
Punjab has been placed on maximum alert, with additional personnel deployed near police establishments, increased patrolling, and border security tightened. Authorities have urged heightened vigilance at government offices, public places, and transport hubs.
Officials said coordinated efforts between state and central security forces were ongoing to thwart potential attacks and ensure the safety of citizens.
