Punjab police detain BJP leaders during outreach camp in rural areas
PTC News Desk: The Punjab police on Thursday detained several BJP leaders including former MP Sushil Rinku and senior leader K.D Bhandari in Jalandhar. The leaders were detained from party's mega outreach programme ‘BJP de sewadar aa gaye ne tuhade dwar’, being conducted in rural areas of the state.
While being forcibly detained and escorted out of the camp venue in Gidderbaha, Pritpal, in a live video on Facebook, said, “The camp was set up to facilitate poor people, but the state government has stooped so low that it is detaining people like me.”
According to the information, BJP leaders organised an outreach programme and such camps used to enroll residents for central Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes. During the enrollment process, the state police reached there and escorted the leaders out of the venue.
In response to the detention, the leaders resorted to sloganeering and protested against the AAP government.
Meanwhile, the AAP government has alleged that on the backdrop of the campaign, BJP is collecting personal information and ordered an investigation into the matter.
