Punjab: Relative arrested for murder of mother-son duo in Patiala
Patiala: The Patiala police claimed to have cracked the murder case of mother-son duo with the arrest of one of their relatives identified as Harjeet Singh Kaka. The bodies of Harvinder (24) and his mother Jasvir Kaur (53) were found in a pool of blood at their residence at Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar on the Sirhind road.
There were also blood stains in the bedroom. Both victims had their throats slit with a sharp weapon, indicating a horrific and tragic incident.
Upon receiving information from the relatives and neighbours about the murders, the police registered a case against unidentified persons. The initial investigation revealed that the gate was bolted from inside, suggesting that the killers may have escaped either through the terrace or by scaling the boundary wall of the premises.
Addressing mediapersons, SSP Varun Sharma said the accused, Harjeet Singh Kaka, wanted to move abroad to pursue higher studies and establish a life in Canada, for which he required financial resources. Believing that there would be sufficient cash in the victims' house, he hatched a conspiracy to rob them.
The SSP said the accused had fled with some valuables which he knew were kept in the cupboard.
The SSP said a team led by SP city Mohammed Sarfaraz, DSP Jaswinder Tiwana and CIA in-charge Shaminder Singh cracked the case within 24 hours.
The SSP said the wounds on the hands of the accused made their suspicion stronger.
