Punjab reports 500 stubble burning incidents; Fazilka records maximum cases

PTC News Desk: Punjab reported 513 incidents of stubble burning on Tuesday, bringing the total number of such incidents to 35,606 since September 15. The state had 168 and 243 farm fires on the same day in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

According to data from the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Fazilka had the most farm fires on Tuesday, with 105, followed by 81 in Moga, 58 in Ferozepur, 47 in Muktsar, and 40 in Barnala.

Sangrur leads the 35,606 farm fires recorded between September 15 and November 21, with 5,565, followed by Ferozepur with 3,322, Bathinda with 2,900, Moga with 2,596 and Barnala with 2,226.

In the years 2021 and 2022, the state reported 70,879 and 49,526 stubble-burning incidents, respectively.

Paddy straw burning in Punjab and Haryana is thought to be one of the causes of the national capital's alarming increase in air pollution levels in October and November.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, pollution levels in Delhi and its suburbs rose further overnight, with the capital's Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 365 at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

An AQI of zero to 50 is considered 'good,' 51 to 100 'satisfactory,' 101 to 200 'moderate,' 201 to 300 'poor,' 301 to 400 'very poor,' 401 to 450 'severe,' and above 450 'severe plus'.
