Punjab Roadways contract workers refuse to provide buses for political rallies, submits formal letter to PRTC

PTC News Desk: In a significant policy shift, the Punjab Roadways/PRTC Contract Workers Union has announced that the members will no longer provide buses for political rallies. The contract staff will restrict their work to only routine route duties. A formal letter has been submitted to the PRTC General Manager.

The union’s decision comes in response to the government’s continued failure to meet their longstanding demands, despite multiple assurances.

Citing serious safety concerns—especially after a recent firing incident at a political rally—the union announced that its members will not provide vehicles for any political events until their grievances are addressed. In a letter to the PRTC management, the contract workers said they feel unsafe and will not cooperate in deploying buses for political gatherings.

The move follows a violent attack in Tarn Taran last week, where a Punjab Roadways bus carrying Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s rally was ambushed near Moose village. Witnesses said the attackers blocked the bus and opened fire, leaving one worker, Satinderpal Singh, critically injured.

This shocking incident has strengthened the workers’ determination to put their safety above political duties.
