Punjab witnesses heavy rainfall, gets relief from humid weather conditions
Punjab Weather update: Several parts of Punjab witnessed heavy rainfalls on Wednesday, bringing residents relief from humid weather conditions.
The showers are predicted not only to alleviate the pressure on groundwater extracted for ongoing paddy sowing and irrigation but also to result in a 5.5° Celsius fall in the average maximum temperature.
Ludhiana recorded the highest 103 mm rainfall on Wednesday between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, according to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Chandigarh centre.
Ludhiana was followed by 80 mm rainfall in the Balachaur area of Nawanshahr district, 64 mm in Ropar, 47 mm in Jalandhar, 40.5 mm in Ferozepur, 33.5 mm in Gurdaspur, 21 mm in Patiala and 18.5 mm rainfall in Amritsar.
According to the IMD, a fresh western disturbance is expected to strike the western Himalayan region beginning on July 8th. From July 5 to July 9, light to moderate rain is forecast in many/most places throughout Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, with heavy rain in certain some and the chance of thunderstorms and lightning. The weather service has recommended people drive cautiously in the rain, avoid refuge under trees, and avoid bodies of water.
