PTC Web Desk: A youth from Punjab's Amritsar district lost his life after drowning in a lake in Germany, leaving his family devastated. The bereaved family has appealed to the Central and Punjab governments to help bring his body back to India so they can perform his last rites according to their religious traditions.

The deceased has been identified as Harshpreet, a resident of Budha Theh village near Baba Bakala in Amritsar district. According to family members, his father has been living in Germany for the past seven years.

Harshpreet had travelled to Germany around a year ago to meet his father. His mother said he had gone to a lake with a group of friends for a swim when the tragic incident occurred. He reportedly drowned in the lake and could not be saved.

The family has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to intervene and facilitate the repatriation of Harshpreet's mortal remains to India.

Speaking about the tragedy, Harshpreet's mother said the family wants to perform his final rites in his native village in accordance with their customs and traditions. She appealed to the authorities to extend all possible assistance in bringing his body back at the earliest.

Family members said Harshpreet was the couple's only son, making the loss even more heartbreaking.
