Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu, announced the launch of the long-awaited Mohali–Rajpura rail link, a project that has been pending for nearly five decades.

They also revealed plans for a new Vande Bharat Express service between Ferozepur and New Delhi, which will run six days a week, excluding Wednesdays. These proposals, cleared in principle, will now be forwarded for Cabinet approval.

For the Mohali–Rajpura link is spanned across 18 km, to be build at estimated cost of Rs 443 crore and will be build at an estimated cost of Rs 443 crore.

The Railways require 54 hectares of land, which the Punjab Government will acquire and transfer to the Centre. Vaishnaw further noted that several other projects in Punjab, including the redevelopment of Chandigarh railway station, are expected to be completed by 2026–27.

The new Ferozepur–New Delhi Vande Bharat will significantly boost connectivity in the region, running via Bathinda, Dhuri, Patiala, and Ambala, thereby linking much of the Malwa belt to the national capital.
