Robbery in Punjab's Hoshiarpur; courier company employee looted of Rs 18 lakh
Hoshiarpur, July 31: The Hoshiarpur police have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged robbery of over Rs 18 lakh from an employee of a courier services company in the area.
On late Saturday evening, the accused robbed Bharat Saini of Rs 18.4 lakh in cash and some gold, as reported by Hoshiarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Sartaj Singh Chahal.
According to the police, Bharat Saini had collected the money after successfully delivering a gold parcel to a local jewellery shop. He was en route to deliver another gold parcel to a jeweller named Atul Verma in the Talwara area at the time of the incident.
However, Atul Verma approached Bharat Saini at the bus stop and offered him a ride in his car. Verma promised to pay Saini Rs 17 lakh for the gold parcel once they arrived at the Talwara location, as per the information available.
When they reached Rampur Haler, two persons on a motorbike intercepted the car and forcefully snatched the bag containing Rs 18.4 lakh in cash and some gold items from Bharat Saini, according to the police.
During the investigation, it came to light that Atul Verma was the mastermind behind the robbery. He had allegedly conspired with his employee Dinesh and another individual to carry out the crime.
As per the police, Atul Verma allegedly played a central role in planning and orchestrating the robbery. He took the help of his employee, Dinesh, and another person to execute the crime, as revealed by the investigators.
After Atul Verma and Dinesh confessed to their participation in the crime, the police successfully retrieved Rs 14.6 lakh from their possession.
