SGPC makes arrangements for devotees visiting Golden Temple despite severe heatwave
Amritsar, May 21: Amid the ongoing heatwave gripping the region, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has implemented several measures to ensure the comfort and safety of devotees visiting the Golden Temple, Amritsar, in large numbers on daily basis. Despite the sweltering temperatures, there has been no decline in the number of devotees thronging Sri Harmandir Sahib.
To combat the heat and provide relief to visitors, the SGPC has installed high-quality mats throughout Golden Temple premises. These mats are kept wet continuously to help cool the feet of the devotees as they walk around gurdwara sahib. This thoughtful measure has been well-received, offering much-needed relief from the hot marble surfaces.
Additionally, large coolers have been strategically placed to create a cooler environment. These coolers are complemented by numerous fans, which help in circulating the air and reducing the overall temperature within the temple premises. Water showers have also been installed in various locations to provide a quick and refreshing way for visitors to cool down.
The SGPC has ensured that shabeel, a traditional service of offering free cold water and refreshments, is ongoing. Volunteers and SGPC employees are actively engaged in serving chilled water and other refreshments to the devotees, ensuring they stay hydrated and refreshed during their visit.
Amid the severe heatwave, the dedication of the SGPC employees stands out. They are working tirelessly to assist devotees in every possible way, from offering guidance and support to distributing refreshments.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the rush at the Golden Temple remains undiminished. Devotees from all walks of life continue to visit in large numbers, undeterred by the heat.
One devotee, Harpreet Singh, expressed his gratitude, saying, "The arrangements made by the SGPC are commendable. The wet mats and coolers have made our visit much more comfortable. We are thankful for the efforts made to ensure we can focus on our prayers without being overwhelmed by the heat."
Another visitor, Sukhdev Kaur, echoed this sentiment, appreciating the constant supply of cold water and the availability of shaded areas to rest. "The volunteers are doing an excellent job. Their dedication is truly heartwarming," she added.
