Speeding Punjab Roadways bus runs over elderly woman, killing her on the spot on Zirakpur–Patiala road
PTC News Desk: A Punjab Roadways bus ran over an elderly woman, killing her on the spot on Zirakpur–Patiala on Sunday. The driver fled the spot after the accident.
Soon after receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the body to the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital. A case has also been registered against the bus driver for violating traffic rules.
The accident occurred near Lucky Dhaba on the Zirakpur–Patiala Road, when the bus, travelling from Chandigarh towards Patiala, hit the elderly woman. According to eyewitnesses, the driver was speeding and driving carelessly. As the woman began crossing the road, the driver ran the bus over her.
The driver then moved the bus back and forth, crushing her again, leading to her immediate death. The accident was so severe that several parts of her body were dismembered and scattered on the road.
After the incident, the bus driver escaped with the vehicle. The accident caused panic among people nearby, and a large crowd gathered at the spot. Locals said the woman was stuck under the bus, but instead of stopping, the driver reversed the vehicle, causing even more serious injuries.
The bus has since been located and taken into police custody, and the search for the absconding driver is ongoing. Officials said strict legal action will be taken under serious charges.
