UK launches ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ campaign to protect Indian citizens from scams
PTC Web Desk: To combat the rising cases of visa fraud and irregular migration, the UK government has introduced a dedicated awareness campaign, ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’, aimed at educating Indian citizens on the risks associated with fraudulent visa agents and unauthorised migration pathways.
Launched today (February 27) at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar, the initiative provides a WhatsApp support line ( 91 70652 51380) offering guidance in English and Punjabi. The platform assists individuals in identifying misleading visa offers, preventing financial losses, and securing legitimate travel opportunities. LPU Chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal was present at the launch event.
The campaign warns people against misleading claims such as: guaranteed jobs in the UK; No English language proficiency test (IELTS) requirement and exorbitant service fees for visa processing.
The authorities highlight that visa fraud not only leads to financial and emotional distress but also puts individuals at risk of exploitation and physical harm. Anyone caught committing visa fraud faces a 10-year ban on entering the UK.
UK-India collaboration on migration
The UK and India are actively working together under the Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement to curb irregular migration. This initiative is another step towards ensuring safe and legal travel opportunities for Indian nationals.
Christina Scott, British Deputy High Commissioner to India, emphasised that Indian nationals receive the highest number of UK visit and work visas. She urged applicants to verify visa information through official sources.
Caroline Rowett, British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh, encouraged the people of Punjab to spread awareness and prevent their loved ones from falling prey to fraudulent agents.
UK Visa updates for Indian nationals
Nearly 1 million UK visas are expected to be issued to Indians this year . February marks the third anniversary of the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme, which has expanded opportunities for internships and cultural exchanges. Outreach activities will take place in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Chandigarh to educate individuals about visa scams.
